Easy Reader / Early Chapter Book The Enchanted River Race

I’ve been posting a lot about my new middle grade fantasy series, the Young Alchemist series, but haven’t said much about my early chapter book. In fact, I don’t think I’ve made a single blog post about the book … until now.

In short, The Enchanted River Race is an adventure-filled early chapter book that follows eleven-year-old Amy Lorovia who has been chosen to captain her district’s ship in her village’s enchanted river race. Amy thinks the race will be a fun romp down the river with her friends. She quickly discovers, however, the race is anything but friendly, and she finds herself facing mystical landscapes, magical obstacles, and cutthroat competition. With the help of her two best friends, Amy must rise to the occasion or risk continuing her district’s decades-long losing streak.

The Enchanted River Race is near and dear to my heart for a couple of reasons. Firstly, it was my first published book! Secondly, it is an early chapter book (also known as easy-to-read). I feel this genre is of the utmost importance in the development of children’s reading habits. For many children, this is their first foray into reading on their own, and the love of reading they develop with early chapter books is something they can carry with them throughout their lives. Whatever early chapter book you choose for your children, be sure it’s something they’ll enjoy!
